A municipality in Mount Lebanon has begun accepting building permit applications through a simple online form, allowing residents to follow each request through its review stages without visiting the town hall.
Staff said the most common complaint they heard was not the time a permit took, but not knowing where an application had stalled. Each request now shows which office holds it and the date it arrived there.
"People were coming in three or four times just to ask," said Maya, an engineer in the municipal planning office. "Now they can see it from home, and we can spend that time actually reviewing files."
Paper applications are still accepted, and staff scan them into the same system so every request is tracked the same way.
The municipality says it will publish average processing times for each stage at the end of the year.
