Three small Amman technology companies are testing a shared delivery network that lets corner shops and pharmacies offer same-day delivery without signing up to a large platform.
Shops enter orders into a simple app, and the nearest available rider from any of the three companies picks them up. Fees are split by distance rather than as a percentage of the order.
"A grocer with thin margins cannot give away a quarter of every sale," said Dana, a co-founder of one of the companies. "Riders are the expensive part, so we share them."
The trial covers four neighbourhoods and around sixty shops.
The companies say they will decide whether to expand after reviewing delivery times and rider earnings at the end of the trial.
