Irbid has started a trial of a single telephone hotline for municipal complaints, replacing separate numbers for roads, lighting and waste collection.
Each call is logged with a reference number that residents can use to check progress. Operators pass reports to the relevant department and record when the job is closed.
"The reference number changes the conversation," said Ahmad, a supervisor at the call centre. "People no longer have to explain the whole problem again every time they call."
Early reports are dominated by street lighting and waste collection, according to the call centre.
The municipality says it will publish monthly figures on complaints received and resolved.
