Volunteer rescuers and local tour guides spent three days in Wadi Rum practising how to find and treat lost or injured hikers, ahead of the autumn tourist season.
Exercises included searching a marked grid on foot and by four-wheel drive, relaying GPS positions over radio, and treating heat exhaustion with limited supplies.
"Guides are usually first on the scene, long before anyone else," said Zaid, a guide who helped organise the course. "If they know the first ten minutes, everything after goes better."
Participants received a pocket card with emergency contacts and a checklist for reporting a missing person.
Organisers plan a shorter refresher course in the spring.
